Chemical Peels: Acid and Enzymatic

Chemical peels are designed to improve the tone and texture of the skin while reducing the appearance of wrinkles. Patients can expect subtle changes but will note increased results with additional treatments. There are two main options for chemical peels at Sugarloaf, those being the acid variety and the enzymatic. Both types have advantages. Generally, enzyme peels are more gentle. They are also made with fruit enzymes to naturally treat the skin. Both types achieve the same goal of exfoliating the skin. The difference is how deeply the skin is penetrated. Chemical peels with acid will go beyond the surface of the skin, while enzyme-based peels will usually stay surface level. Some medical professionals put enzymes in a different category altogether than an acid chemical peel for this reason.

PRP Injections: Platelet-Rich Plasma Injections

The body has been able to heal itself for centuries, and recently, medical professionals are coming to understand more about how it does its magic. This therapy is a way to allow the body to heal itself by taking the body’s own platelet-rich plasma and inserting it into the body to amplify growth and heal tissue. PRP injections can be used to improve muscle strain as well as treat other injuries and conditions.

P-Shot for Peyronie’s Disease, Erectile Dysfunction

Known as the P-Shot, the Priapus Shot helps men who suffer from Peyronie’s disease. Named after Priapus, the Greek god of fertility, this shot is a nonsurgical procedure that naturally stimulates tissue growth and rejuvenation of the penis. Peyronie’s disease is a common penile condition that negatively impacts men’s sexual life and overall activity level.

O-Shot for Sexual Health and Urinary Stress Incontinence

Known as the Orgasm-Shot, the O-shot is designed to treat urinary incontinence as well as boost the sexual experience for women. It also treats problematic conditions like vaginal dryness. This treatment uses PRP or platelet-rich plasma to treat these conditions.

Microneedling

This is a cosmetic procedure that is minimally invasive. It is designed to treat various skin concerns through increased collagen production. Microneedling is performed with small sterilized needles that are used to prick the skin. These pricks will help generate new collagen to smooth and firm the skin tone. It is most often used on the face to reduce the appearance of large pores, dark spots, acne, and wrinkles.

HA fillers: Juvederm, Belotero, Restylane

HA fillers are short for Hyaluronic acid fillers. Interestingly enough, Hyaluronic acid already occurs naturally within the skin. HA fillers work by plumping or hydrating the skin with gel-like fillers. The results of HA fillers are temporary lasting between six and 12 months. The body will naturally absorb the particle fillers over time. The end result is a reduction of wrinkles and lines with a boost of volume to the face, erasing those common signs of aging. At Sugarloaf Dermatology in Lawrenceville, you can choose from three types of fillers, those being the Juvederm, Belotero, or Restylane options. The following is a closer look at what makes these types different:

  • Juvederm: This is one of the most common and popular dermal fillers on the market today. It has been used since it was FDA-approved in 2006. It is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler and is preferred over the other types of fillers because it has a mild anesthetic ingredient that minimizes injection sensations during the filler process. Juvederm also boasts the largest treatment area of the three types of fillers. It can successfully treat lines around the eyes as well as in the forehead while adding volume to the cheeks and filling in lines around the mouth and nasolabial folds. Juvederm results will typically last between six and 12 months after treatment.
  • Belotero: As another hyaluronic-acid option, Belotero is created using a unique process known as the Cohesive Polydensified Matrix process or CPM. Belotero has a thinner consistency when compared to the other two options, so it is best used for smaller wrinkles and lines in the face. The results of Belotero will usually last at least six months but can last even longer.
  • Restylane: This is also a hyaluronic acid-base derma filler. It is known worldwide for its ability to add volume to the cheeks and lips. It can successfully transform even the smallest lips to those with a natural, healthy, and plump fullness. Results can last between four to six months.

Neurotoxins: Botox Dysport Xeomin

These injectable solutions work to block nerve receptors in the muscles, which in turn prevent the formation of wrinkles and lines. They can also be used to treat overactive bladder, muscle spasms, muscle stiffness, and excessive sweating. This safe treatment is considered the #1 nonsurgical procedure since 2000. The difference between Xeomin, Dyspot, and Botox are found in the bacteria they use. However, each type works in a similar way. These injectable results will be noticeable within three to five days of treatment and results will last between three and six months. This type of treatment works differently than fillers. Fillers will treat deep lines and wrinkles when the face is in its resting state, while neurotoxin injections can work to reduce the appearance of lines that are visible only when smiling.

Weight Loss: Peptides: Phentermine, Semaglutide

Many Americans find themselves on the losing side of their weight loss battle. Thankfully, there are treatments for weight loss that can make sustained success more likely. The two main treatments are phentermine and semaglutide. Phentermine is an anorectic, or hunger-suppressing medication. Semaglutide is a GLP-1, which is a glucagon-like peptide similar to what the body naturally makes. It works by slowing down the movement of the intestinal tract and keeping food in the stomach for a longer period of time to decrease the feeling of hunger. It also improves the body’s resistance to insulin, which can increase weight loss and positively impact blood sugar levels.
